Description: In the 1920s, Karpiński placed his female models in the interiors of bourgeois parlours, featuring wall mirrors, dressing tables and various decorative objects – ceramics, paintings, clocks, and photographs. Over time, Karpiński began to idealize the women he depicted, creating schematic and conventional portrayals.
In the 1920s and 1930s, the artist created a series of paintings of nude models – reclining or seated on the sofa in his studio – whose form and manner of painting show affinity to Pierre Bonnard’s nudes.
